Revell Luftschiff LZ -129 Hindenburg Air Ship plastic model Kit #04802. 1:720 scale, skill level 3. Recommended for ages 12 and up. This is the famous airship Hindenburg that caught on fire and burned as it arrived at its destination point of Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey on May 6, 1937. 36 people died in the disaster. The Hindenburg was named after German Field Marshal Paul Von Hindenburg ( 1847-1934), who was president of Germany from 1925-1934.

Revell Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 Plastic Model Kit. 1:48 scale, skill level 2. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Revell MiL Mi-26 Halo Helicopter Plastic Model Kit#04645. Skill level 5, recommended for ages 13 and up. Model features: Detailed cockpit with 4 crew figures, detailed cargo hold, tail rotor drive shaft opartially visible, detailed air intakes, detailed landing gear, tail cargo door optionally open or closed, separate doors and steps, and detailed main and tail rotors. Code-named “Halo” by Nato, the MiL Mi-26 helicopter is the worlds heaviest and largest series built helicopter. Production started in 1980, and the helicopter was used in the Soviet air force. It was developed for a useful load of 20 tons over a 800km distance.

Model features: Cockpit doors can be assembled closed or open to show interior and pilot figure, and access panels for detailed engine and gun compartments are removable. By locating the engine behind the cockpit and by driving the propeller through an eight foot extension shaft and reduction gear box, the nose section was available for the installation of heavy armament.

Revell P-51B/C Mustang Plastic Model Kit #85-5256. 1:48 scale, skill level 2. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Revell Sopwith F-1 Camel World War 1 Biplane. 1:72 scale, skill level 3. Recommended for ages 10 and up. This very manoeverable British fighter biplane appeared on the Western Front in 1917. It soon proved its superiority over German fighter planes and over 5,500 were produced. It was a F-1 Camel piloted by Canadian born Roy Brown that has been credited with shooting down Manfred Von Richthofen ( “the Red Baron” ) on April 21, 1918. Although some research suugests that it is unlikely that the bullet that shot down the Red Baron was fired from Brown’s plane, his credit for it has never been revoked.

Revell SPAD XIII C-1 Plastic Model Kit Item#04192. 1:72 scale, skill level 3. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Model features: Structural details on surface, pilot figures, separate exhaust pipe, undercarriage, and decals. The SPAD XIII was used for the first time for World War I in 1917. French flying aces achieved great success with it. This fighter plane was also used by British and American squadrons.

Revell Spirit of St. Louis Plastic Model Kit #85-5244. 1:48 scale, skill level 2. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Model features: Authentic Wright J5C  Whirlwind Engine, detailed cockpit and optional standing or sitting pilot figure, and decals for early and late versions. Built by Ryan Airline Corporation, the Spirit of St. Louis was completed on April 28, 1927. Charles Lindberg piloted the plane in the historic New York to Paris flight on May 20-21, 1927. The aircraft went 3800  miles in 33.5 hours from Roosevelt Airfield Long Island New York to Le Bourget Aerodome Paris, France. This was the first non-stop trans Atlantic flight. Lindbergh won the $25,000 Ortieg prize for his efforts ( which even by 1920’s standards was a lot of money).

First flown in December 1964, the Lockheed SR-71 spy plane ( nicknamed “Blackbird” ) was the most dramatic aircraft ever to fly. Designed to be the ultimate “spy-in-the -sky” it is still probably the fastest and highest flying jet plane ever built. Pilots of the Sr-71 had to wear protective flight suits similar to what astronauts use. The plane was retired from service in 1990.

The Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot is one of the latest warplanes in the Soviet air arsenal. It is designed as a close support or ground attack aircraft. It was used extensively in Afghanistan where the mountainous terrain was perfect for testing the Frogfoot’s capabilities.

Revell Monogram Twin Mustang F-82G Plastic Model Kit#85-5257. 1:72 scale, skill level 2. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Model features: Movable propelleras, two figures with opening canopies and open or closed gun compartment, optional rockets,bombs, fuel tanks or radar pod, and choice of authentic decal markings. A radical departure from the conventional single fuselage airplane, the Twin Mustang was not, as commonly believed, two P-51 Mustangs coupled together. It was largely as new aircraft based on the p-51 design with many aerodynamic changes. The aircraft could bbe controlled from either cockpit.

Revell USAF Thunderbirds Plastic Model Kit #H-195. Note: This is a previously owned, but unbuilt model kit from 1973. The pieces have not been removed from their holders. The box, however, does show moderate wear. 1:72 scale. The kit includes parts to make 4 complete McDonell- Douglas F4-E Phantoms with display stand. Model features: Diamond formation display stand, optional position landing gear and movable wheels, each plane has 4 sparrow missiles and 2 crew members, clear canopies, and official USAF Thunderbirds markings. In 1969, the Thunderbirds began using the McDonnell Douglas F4-E Phantoms for thier aerial shows. The F4-E Phantom  housed 2 GE J-29 engines with 35,000 lbs of thrust capable of speeds up to 1,600 mph -twice the speed of sound. The Thunderbirds demonstrated the unique capabilities of these fighters with aerobatics or actual combat maneuvers at civilian and military airshows. Equivalent to the “Snowbirds” of Canada.

Revell Wright Flyer “First Powered Flight” Plastic Model Kit #85-5243. 1:39 scale, skill level 2. Recommended for ages 10 and up.  Model features: authentic launch track, detailed figures of Orville and Wilbur Wright, rigging thread, molded in cream tan and clear, and includees full color “how-to” diorama sheet. On December 17, 1903 Orville and Wilbur Wright made history on the sands of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina when they successfuly flew in the flying machine they had built. This was the first powered flight that a human had flown in. Ity was actually Orville Wright that was at the controls for this momentous first flight that lasted all but 12 seconds.

Revell Battleship Bismarck Plastic Model Kit#05098. 1:700 scale, skill level 5. Recommended for ages 12 to adult. Model features: Detailed hull and power plant, decks with textured planks, gun turrets with individually moving barrels, and display stand. The Bismarck and the Tirpitz were the two largest battleships in the Second World War. The Bismarck was very succesful during the time it was employed during the war and was much feared by the allies. On May 24, 1941 the Bismarck sank the British cruiser HMS Hood near Greenland. The Bismarck had heavy damage to it’s bow and tried to make it to a French port but British ships and aircraft pursued it and rendered the ship unfit for action. The ship was then scuttled to the bottom of the Atlantic ocean.

Revell Clipper Ship Cutty Sark Plastic Model Kit#05401. 1:220 scale, skill level 5. Recommended for ages 10 and up. The Cutty Sark was launched on the River Clyde, in Scotland, 1892. Most of her active duty was to transport goods around the world. However, in 1885 she participated in a race from Australia to England against the Thermopylae. The Cutty Sark won, making the voyage in 73 days, while the Thermopylae took 80 days to make the trip. Today, the Cutty Sark remains in dry dock in Greenwich, England for display to the public.

This class of submarine is one of the smallest, but most manoeverable, armed submarine in the world. it went into service in 1973 as the 206 class and in 1987  it underwent a modernization program to become the 206A class. These submarines are characterized by low accoustic signature and amagnetic construction nad have excellent manoeuverability. Top speed 17 knots and a crew of 22.

Revell German Submarine Type VII C Plastic Model kit #05038. 1:144 scale, skill level 3. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Model features: 2 optional conning tower variants : one with top side wall of conning tower withantennae, compass, and hatch, the 2nd version showing hydraulic antennae, finely detailed hull showing rivets and welds, imitation flood valves, authentic deck details, detailed propeller and rudder, periscope can be extended and retracted in various positions, detailed 20mm gun on mount,  detailed 88 mm cannon, display stand, and specific decals for various versions. The U boat type VII C is the best known German submarine from World War II. it was built in large numbers and upgraded several times. Equipped with four bow and one stern torpedo. The subs were designed to disrupt England’s supply lines. The “Grey Wolves” of the Atlantic made war on escort convoys and hunted in packs. While initially these subs had great success, by 1943 new search equipment made it easy to track the German submarines and they became easy targets.

Revell Graf Zeppelin German Aircraft Carrier Plastic Model Kit #05055. 1:720 scale, skill level 4. Recommended for ages 10 and above. Model features: Detailed hull, propellers, and radar equipment, lifeboats, cannon and anti-aircraft guns, detailed flight deck, deck superstructures and masts, one open aircraft lift, planes, and authentic decals. The Graf Zeppelin was the one and only German aircraft carrier, however it was never completed or used. It was ordered to be built back in 1935, and was finally launched uncompleted in 1939. In 1940, construction work was halted and by 1943 it was left unused in its dock. On April 25th, 1945 it was sunk at its berth by a demolition squad, only to be raised by the Soviets in March of 1947. In June of that same year it was finally sunk for good by a torpedo.

Most sailing shiips earned their fame in history from sea battles, but the H.M.S. Beagle earned it from exploration. On December 27th, 1831 the Beagle sailed from Davenport, England on a five year expedition around the globe. At the invitation of Captain Fitzroy, a young scientist named Charles Darwin was aboard. The observations made by Darwin on the trip led to his famous theories of evolution and the origin of species. The historic voyage went via Brazil, Chile, the Galapagos Islands, Tahiti, New Zealand, and the Cape of Good Hope before returning to England on February 10th, 1836. Many species were brought back as specimens of his evolutionary findings.

The H.M.S. Bounty is a vessel that has become famous for the story of the bold mutiny that occured on board. In 1787 Captain William Bligh was ordered by King George III to bring bread-fruit trees from Tahiti to the West Indies in the Bounty. Captain Bligh has been portrayed by many historians, whether correctly or not, as a cruel tyrant who ruled with an iron fist. On April 28th, 1789  the famous mutiny occured.  Bligh and 18 of his henchmen were set adrift in a boat, and somehow made their way back to England. The mutineers settled on Pitcairn Island and burnt the Bounty to help prevent their discovery.

Revell H.M.S. Duke of York Battleship Plastic Model Kit #05811. 1:1200 scale, skill level 3. Recommended for ages 10 and up. The Duke of York was one of five King George V Battleships. It was launched on February 28, 1940. Her first mission was to take Prime Minister Winston Churchill to the USA. The ship was used in European waters throughout World War II mostly for protection of the conveys bound for Mumansk.

Revell Harbour Tug Boat Plastic Model Kit#05207. 1:108 scale, skill level 3. Recommended for ages 10 and up. The Titanic, and it’s tragic story, is probably the most famous ship ever known. The Titanic, the pride of the White Star Line,  was on it’s maiden voyage from Southhampton, U.K. to New York City. Because she was proclaimed to be “unsinkable”, and because a speed record was trying to be broken, she was travelling at a fast speed of 22 knots in waters where icebergs were known to be found. Late evening April 14, 1912 in the cold Atlantic waters, the Titanic collided with an iceberg that tore a 300 foot gash beneath the water line of the starboard side. The first six compartments between bulkheads became flooded immediately. This pushed the bow of the Titanic low in the water, which allowed the ocean to spill over the bulkheads into the next compartments and rest of ship. The Titanic was doomed. At 2:18 a.m. April 15th, 1912 the Titanic disappeared under the waves to it’s watery grave far below the surface. Of the 2,224 persons aboard, only 711 were saved. This was due to the lack of lifeboats for every passenger. Get this Titanic model as it once looked at the beginning of that fateful voyage.

Revell U.S.S. Enterprise Nuclear Aircraft Carrier Plastic Model Kit #05046. 1;720 scale, skill level 4. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Model  features: Complete hull or water line option, 30 ship borne aircraft, detailed superstructures, rockets, radar antennas, U.S. Navy decals, and display stand. The nuclear powered Enterprise is the first aircraft carrier of its kind and is among the largest vessels ever built. The Enterprise was put into service on November 25th, 1961. Eight watercooled reactors generate a total power output of 300,000 hosepower which allows the vessel to go at an average speed of 35 knots. The aircraft deck measures 76.8 meters in wideth. On average there are 414 officers and 4260 crew on board.

The submarine proved to be the demise of many Japanese merchant vessels during World War II in the Pacific. It was also effective in scouting the locations and movements of enemy ships and transporting parties to where they were needed. The Lionfish had six forward torpedo tubes and four aft tubes.

After the US Pacific fleet had been seriously weakended by the attack on Pearl Harbour, much of the responsibility in the battle against the Japanese in World War II rested on the shoulders of American submariners. The submarines of the Gato Class were large fleet submarines that had been specially developed for the wide expanses of the Pacific Ocean. These submarines were extremely successful. Not only did they sink a large number of freighters and tankers, but they decimated the Japanese Imperial naval fleet. Its main armament consisted of ten torpedo tubes for which it could carry 24 torpedoes, as well as a deck gun, machine guns, and anti-aircraft guns. Six of thes Gato Class submarines can still be seen as museum vessels today.

The USS Arizona is the famous memorial to the tragic disaster of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The USS Arizona was sunk right in the harbor and remains sunken as a memorial to the  1,100 seamen who lost their lives aboard the ship. Tourists can take a short tour to the site to pay their respects to the casualties of this disaster. On the morning of December 7, 1941 the USS Arizona was tied up in “Battleship Row” along Ford Island. Suddenly, Japanese aircraft filled the skies above Pearl Harbor and bombs and torpedoes rained down. The Arizona took a torpedo in her port side, a bomb midships, and an armor piercing bomb in the forecastle. The ship was doomed. The Pearl Harbor attack triggered the United States to enter World War II. Interestingly enough, tourists can also tour the USS Missouri Battleship at Pearl Harbor which was the location of the signing of the peace treaty and the surrender of Japan to end World War II. The two ships are known as “the Bookends” at Pearl Harbor- the place where the war began and ended.

General Douglas MacArthur presided as supreme commander for the allied powers. A plaque was placed in the deck of the “Mighty Mo” commemorating this event. This kit contains a copy of that plaque as Japan made a formal surrender to the allies. The “Mighty Mo” is currently now on display at Pearl Harbor ( since 1998)  Honolulu, Hawaii for the general public to view.

Both components returned for the voyage home, but the command module separated just before entering the Earth’s atmosphere and landed safely with parachutes in the Pacific Ocean.

Revell Kanonenjagdpanzer German Tank Model kit #03068 . 1: 35 scale, skill level 5. Recommended for age 13 and up. Model features: additional parts to build the observation version, detailed revolveing barrel, MG and flak anit-aircraft MG, easy to fit vinyl tracks, moveable running gear, smoke grenade dischargers, and accurate reproduction of the 90 mm cannon. This tank went into production in 1966. Its speed of 70 km/h and 90 mm cannon made it a dangerous opponent. By the 1980’s however it was no longer a match for new and improved tanks and was converted to observation vehicles until it was retired in 2003.

Delays in the production of the first German main battle tanks led to the use of the armoured fighting vehicle II in World War II. After initial succes in Poland and France, it soon became inferior to enemy tanks due to a lack of armour. The “F” version developed in 1941 had reinforced front and side armour.

In response to the Soviet T-34, the German army developed the armoured fighting vehicle V “Panther”  type D of which was used for the first time in 1943. At the end of 1943, necessary improvements to the tank gave rise to the type A. The panther had a 75 cannon and a top speed of 55 km/h.

A derivative of the famous Panther V tank, the Jagdpanther antitank vehicle proved superior top any allied opposition due to its successful combination of mobility, armour plating, and its power during World War II.

Revell Sherman Firefly Tank Plastic Model Kit#03211. 1: 76 scale, Skill level 3. Recommended for ages 10 and up. During World War II Britain received Sherman tanks from the USA. The turrets were modified to allow them to take the heavy 17 pounder anti-tank and artillery gun. The Sherman M4A1 is one the most famous of American tanks. It was introduced into World War II in 1944.
