From the television series Battlestar Galactica which first originated in 1978. Several other versions of the show have appeared on TV since then.  The Colonial Viper Mk II was designed to operate in both space and atmospheric conditions. The viper is the Colonial fleet’s primary space fighter / attack craft. The Viper was originally introduced to service shortly before the outbreak of the 1st Cylon war. The Mark II remained in service after the end of the conflict, but was subsequently superseded by newer models.

Capable of atmospheric flight, the Mark VII Viper retains the Mark II’s general layout but adds fully integrated avionics that provide superior battle management and flight information for the pilot. The mark VII’s main weapons are three forward-facing cannons, two in the wings and one in the the vertical stabilizer. Usually, only the wing mounted cannons are used.  The Mark VII can also be armed with wing mounted missiles.

Galactica was one of the first twelve battlestars to be constructed by the colonials, each representing one of the twelve colonies; Galactica represented Caprica. Galactica is the last of her kind still in service with the colonial fleet at the time of the destruction of the twelve colonies by the cylons. Galactica and the battlestar Pegasus are the only know battlestars to survive the cylon attack on the twelve colonies.
