The Andrea Gail is a fishing boat made famous by the true story of its loss at sea and subsequent book and movie. The Andrea Gail departed Gloucester Harbor, Massachusetts, September 20, 1991 with six crewmembers on board. They were heading for the Grand Banks off Newfoundland for some swordfish. On October 6, 1991 it began its return voyage home. On October 30, 1991 the vessel was reported as overdue. An extensive search did not locate the vessel or its crew. They were presumed lost at sea during a major storm called “the perfect storm” by meteorologists. This became the title of the book by author Sebastian Junger and in 2000 a motion picture movie staring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg.
